Calm, shallow Bitez Bay offers easy paddle boarding and canoe rental for beginners and families
Calm, shallow Bitez Bay offers easy paddle boarding and canoe rental for beginners and families
Bitez Bay is the easiest place around Bodrum to try paddle sports. The bay is naturally sheltered from wind and waves, the water near the beach is shallow, and the whole inlet stretches about 2 kilometers, which leaves plenty of room to explore without going far from shore. Stand-up paddle boarding suits complete beginners here; most people are standing within 15 minutes on the flat water. More experienced paddlers can follow the coastline toward Gümbet or work along the shore into small coves. Canoes come in single and double versions, stable enough to climb in and out of for a swim, which makes them a good option for couples and families with children. Beach clubs handle rentals, life jackets, and basic instruction, and they have food, drinks, and changing rooms for the rest of the day. Mornings bring the calmest water.

The peninsula's coastline is best reached by water. Boat trips visit coves that roads do not reach, and the water is clear enough for good snorkeling. Most trips run daily in season.
Water sports fans get steady wind and calm bays here. Beginners can book lessons at most beach clubs.
First-time visitors and solo travelers both manage easily here. The area is walkable, and staff at most sites are used to tourists.
Bodrum is Turkey's best-known upscale coastal town. The peninsula has been inhabited for over 2,400 years, first as a Greek city-state, later as a Roman province and a Crusader stronghold.
The town was once Halicarnassus, birthplace of the historian Herodotus and site of the Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The ancient theater and the medieval castle both survive, a short walk apart.
Boat builders here still make wooden gulets by hand, and some shipyards accept visitors during working hours. The restaurant scene includes simple lokantas as well as resort dining rooms.
