Turkey's longest canyon, 18 kilometers with 300-meter walls and an ice-cold river to wade
Saklıkent means 'hidden city,' and the canyon stayed effectively unknown until the 1980s. It cuts 18 kilometers through the Taurus Mountains, with limestone walls rising up to 300 meters and pressing close enough overhead to block most of the sun, so the gorge stays cool on the hottest days. A wooden walkway fixed to the rock takes you in above the rushing water to the point where the wading starts. The river runs at 8 to 12°C year round, fed by underground springs and snowmelt, and trekking up it through water of varying depth is the main event. Casual visitors manage the first few hundred meters; going deeper requires a guide and rented equipment. Entry costs about 25 lira, riverside platforms serve fresh trout, and the nearby ancient city of Tlos makes it a full day trip.

Fethiye's terrain supports serious outdoor sport. Paragliders launch from Babadağ, nearly 2,000 meters above the Blue Lagoon, and the Lycian Way long-distance trail starts just outside town.
This suits travelers who want an active trip. Book paragliding with licensed operators and check wind conditions the day before.
First-time visitors and solo travelers both manage easily here. The area is walkable, and staff at most sites are used to tourists.
Fethiye is a working port town as well as a resort. The bay has been inhabited for over 3,000 years because it is one of the best natural harbors on this coast.
The Taurus Mountains meet the sea here, which makes the coastal scenery steep and abrupt. Lycian rock tombs sit in the cliffs directly above the modern marina, so the old and new parts of town share one view.
Carpet weavers and boat builders still work with traditional methods here. Some workshops let visitors watch. Ask first; most owners are happy to explain the work.

Markets near the harbor sell Turkish crafts and souvenirs. Waterfront cafes are a good place to try Turkish tea between stops.
