Turkey's first long-distance trail, 540 km of marked coastal paths from Fethiye to Antalya
The Lycian Way was Turkey's first long-distance hiking trail: 540 kilometers of marked path between Fethiye and Antalya, following routes the Lycian civilization used more than 2,000 years ago. Red and white blazes mark the way, and the Fethiye end includes some of the most accessible and scenic sections, so you can walk a single day stage or string stages together into a multi-day trek with camping under the stars. The terrain shifts between pine forest, Mediterranean scrubland, and cliff-top paths high above the sea. What sets the trail apart is what you pass: Lycian tombs carved into rock faces, Roman ruins, villages where goat herding is still the main work, and beaches that can only be reached on foot. Carry plenty of water, since springs are scarce on some stretches, and be honest about your fitness before committing to the harder sections.

Traditional villages offering authentic cultural encounters
Fethiye's terrain supports serious outdoor sport. Paragliders launch from Babadağ, nearly 2,000 meters above the Blue Lagoon, and the Lycian Way long-distance trail starts just outside town.
This suits travelers who want an active trip. Book paragliding with licensed operators and check wind conditions the day before.
First-time visitors and solo travelers both manage easily here. The area is walkable, and staff at most sites are used to tourists.
Fethiye is a working port town as well as a resort. The bay has been inhabited for over 3,000 years because it is one of the best natural harbors on this coast.
The Taurus Mountains meet the sea here, which makes the coastal scenery steep and abrupt. Lycian rock tombs sit in the cliffs directly above the modern marina, so the old and new parts of town share one view.
Carpet weavers and boat builders still work with traditional methods here. Some workshops let visitors watch. Ask first; most owners are happy to explain the work.

Most Fethiye attractions are easy to reach from the bay. The Ölüdeniz Blue Lagoon is a short drive away, and the Lycian sites of Tlos and Xanthos make good half-day trips. Restaurants around the marina serve fresh seafood.
Markets near the harbor sell Turkish crafts and souvenirs. Waterfront cafes are a good place to try Turkish tea between stops.
