Blue Cruise in Turkey: Gulet Holidays on the Turquoise Coast

Routes, cabin vs private charter, and tips for a gulet holiday

There are few better ways to see the Turquoise Coast than from the deck of a gulet. For a few days, the boat becomes your hotel: you wake up in a quiet bay, swim before breakfast, sail past ancient ruins and fall asleep to the sound of the sea.

🌿 Good to know

Ask exactly which bays and sites are on the route, and how many hours a day you will be sailing. Good operators share a clear day-by-day plan.

What is a Blue Cruise?

A Blue Cruise (Mavi Yolculuk) is a slow trip along the coast on a gulet, a traditional wooden sailing boat with cabins. You spend the days swimming in bays only reachable by sea, visiting ancient ruins and fishing villages, and the nights anchored in quiet coves under the stars. Meals are cooked on board by the crew.

Popular routes

  • Fethiye to Olympos (and back): the classic route along the Lycian coast, passing Butterfly Valley, Kaş and the sunken city of Kekova. Usually 3–4 nights.
  • Göcek and the 12 Islands: calm, sheltered bays and pine-covered islands, ideal for families and first-timers.
  • Bodrum and the Gulf of Gökova: green bays, clear water and Cleopatra Island.
  • Marmaris, Bozburun and Datça: rugged peninsulas, small harbours and quiet anchorages.

Cabin charter or private gulet?

  • Cabin charter: you book a cabin on a shared gulet with other travellers. A sociable way to try a Blue Cruise.
  • Private charter: the whole boat and crew for your family or group. You choose the route and the pace.
  • Day trips: not ready for nights on board? Day boat trips from Fethiye, Göcek, Marmaris and Bodrum give you a taste.

Practical tips

  • Season: roughly May to October; June and September are calm and warm.
  • What is included: usually cabin, crew and meals; drinks and marina fees may be extra. Ask before you book.
  • Pack light, in a soft bag: cabins are compact. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water shoes.
  • Seasickness: routes stay close to the coast and seas are mostly calm, but bring remedies if you are sensitive.
  • Book with a licensed agency or operator, and check recent reviews.
